What is an A-line LED light bulb?
An A-line LED light bulb is a replacement for a “standard shape” light bulb. This is the light bulb that comes to mind when you think of what Thomas Edison invented, or a common incandescent light bulb.
A-line LED light bulbs use very different technology to operate than the incandescent light bulb. That difference results in major energy savings when you use LED light bulbs. Do you want to know how much you could save by using LEDs? Click here to use our calculator for customized results.
A-line light bulbs are extremely popular and used in all types of residential and commercial settings. You can use the LED replacements in the same settings, whether it’s in ceiling fans in your home, wall sconces at a hotel, or in bathroom vanities in a multifamily facility.
Types of A-line LED light bulbs
A-line LED light bulbs come in different sizes, but there are three that are the most popular: A15, A19, and A21. The number refers to the diameter of the light bulb in one-eighths of an inch.
- A15: This is the smallest of the A-line LED light bulb. Incandescent A15s usually come with wattage ratings ranging from 10 watts to 40 watts. The diameter of the light bulb is 15/8”, which is 1 7/8”. Because they are smaller, they are often used in appliances like refrigerators or in ceiling fans.
- A19: The A19 is slightly larger than the A15. The diameter of the light bulb is 19/8, which is 2 3/8”. A19s are the most popular type of A-line LED light bulb because of their standard shape.
- A21: A21 LED light bulbs are even larger than the A15 and A19. The diameter of the light bulb is 21/8, which is 2 5/8”. You can use A21s in slightly larger fixtures, and A21 light bulbs typically produce the most light.
Where can I use A-line LED light bulbs?
A-line LED light bulbs are highly versatile. You can use them anywhere you would use an A-line incandescent light bulb or an A-line CFL light bulb.
- Bathroom vanities – A-line LEDs work great in bathroom vanities. Buy them for your home or for hotels and multifamily facilities.
- Ceiling fans – A15 LEDs are great in ceiling fans because of their smaller size. You might have ceiling fans in your multifamily building or your restaurant.
- Pendants – Pendant fixtures can be used in a kitchen at home, or in a restaurant. Commercial office buildings are also using pendants as decorative fixtures in common meeting areas. A-line LED light bulbs work nicely in pendants.
- Table lamps – Upgrading to A-line LED light bulbs in table lamps in hotel rooms will add up to extra energy savings.
- Wall sconces – If you have hallways in hotels or multifamily buildings, A-line LED light bulbs should work nicely.
A-line LED light bulbs are available in a wide range of color temperatures, from cool to warm. Cool color temperatures are typically blue. Warm color temperatures are typically yellow. The most common for A-line LED light bulbs is a warm color temperature, between 2700 to 3000K. This will mimic the light color from the most common incandescent light bulbs being replaced.
Can you dim A-line LED light bulbs?
Incandescent light bulbs are easily dimmable, so you might want to dim the A-line LED replacement as well.
LED dimming technology has come a long way in the last few years. There are A-line LED light bulbs that are dimmable, but it’s important to check for compatibility before you buy. You can use the filter that says “dimmable” on the left side of the page to make sure you buy the right product.
Should I recycle A-line LED light bulbs?
Because LED light bulbs do not contain mercury like CFLs, you do not need to recycle them. However, if you do have an A-line CFL that you are replacing with an LED, please make sure to recycle it. We have recycling boxes available for purchase.
